Valeriia Burliuk’s series »A Tale of Wandering« is a poetic photographic narrative and exploration of personal experiences of the “Hero’s Journey” based on the plot of the Russian folk tale The Magic Swan Geese.
The main message of the tale is that one must learn to love oneself and show kindness if one expects support and understanding from others along the way. And it is precisely this theme that is more relevant than ever for the author today.
Amidst the natural landscapes of Iceland, Cyprus, Germany and Poland, Valeriia Burliuk delves into the intricacies of the “Hero’s Journey” to change. She reflects on what the status quo means, on the search for one’s own destiny, on loneliness and on confronting one’s own fears on the way to something new.

Vernissage mit Valeriia Burliuk
Begrüßung: Michael Kraus, M BOOKS Einführung: Wolgang Kissel, Professur Medien-Ereignisse, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
Since childhood, creativity has been her tool to explore the world. Being one of the followers of the D. Burliuk family, Valeriia has upheld his views throughout her creative career, inspired by the story of his life and work.
She is working with the mediums of painting, photography and performance. Using different practices in her creative projects, Valeriia appeals to the themes of nature and human, the divine and magical principle, to which men were so close in ancient times. It is also a study of the human being himself – body and soul and their interactions.
The subject of her latest works is the nature of the North, which is threatened by climate change, and a human being whose mind is evolving along with the changes in the world.
