AA Book 2023 – AA School of Architecture

Das AA Book 2023 bietet einen Überblick über das akademische Jahr 2022–23 an der Architectural Association (AA) School of Architecture. Das Layout der Seiten wurde von den Studierenden und Dozierenden der einzelnen Fachbereiche oder Studiengänge der Schule parallel zur Entwicklung ihrer Projekte gestaltet. Der Mittelteil des Buches umfasst eine Reihe von herausnehmbaren Postern mit den Höhepunkten des Jahres aus anderen Bereichen der AA, darunter das Public Programme, die Visiting School und das Communications Studio. Die Mittelseite bildet den Front Members’ Room am 36 Bedford Square nach, der in diesem Jahr im Mittelpunkt der Ausstellung „Projects Review“ stand und als visueller Katalog der Projekte aller Studierenden der Schule dient.

Zusammen stehen diese Elemente für einen radikalen Wandel im Ansatz gegenüber früheren Ausgaben des AA-Buches hin zu einer flexibleren und ressourcenschonenderen Dokumentation der Arbeiten des Jahres. Sie spiegeln wider, wie wir das akademische Jahr gestalten und wie wir den dringenden Herausforderungen der Gegenwart begegnen: als ein Zusammenschluss von Stimmen, die laut und gemeinsam als eine Schule sprechen.

The AA Book 2023 presents a synopsis of the 2022–23 academic year at the Architectural Association (AA) School of Architecture. The layout of its pages has been generated by the students and tutors of each unit or programme within the school, in parallel with the development of their projects. The middle of the book comprises a series of pull-out posters featuring highlights of the year from other facets of the AA, including the Public Programme, the Visiting School and the Communications Studio. Its centrefold recreates the Front Members’ Room at 36 Bedford Square, which this year sits at the heart of the Projects Review exhibition as a visual catalogue of projects by every student in the school.

Together, these elements represent a radical shift in approach from previous iterations of the AA Book towards a more nimble and less wasteful record of the work of the year. They reflect the way in which we navigate the academic year and how we face the urgent challenges of the present: as an association of voices talking loudly and together as one school.
